College Station is home to the main campus of Texas A&M University, including more than 69,000 of its students. In 1860, the Houston and Texas Central Railway began to build through the region of East-Central Texas. Soon after, that location was chosen for the proposed Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. Today, Texas A&M’s triple designation as a Land-, Sea-, and Space-Grant institution provides a wide range of research endeavors to one of the best college town names in the nation.
